Meet Claire

Claire Bangser is a New Orleans based freelance photographer and short filmmaker. Her work – spanning documentary editorial and commercial projects – is centered around human interest storytelling.

In 2012, Claire spent four months documenting the lives and stories of traditional beekeepers in eastern Turkey and the South Caucausus as part of a National Geographic Young Explorers grant with explorer Cat Jaffee.

In February 2014, Claire launched the popular New Orleans street portrait project NOLAbeings through which she has interviewed well over 1,000 people in New Orleans, and grown a large following on social media. Since then, her work has been featured by a wide range of publications, including National Geographic online, The New York Times, TIME, NPR, Wired, Glamour, The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, Amazon’s DP Review, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Le Parisien Magazine, Thrillist, New Orleans Magazine, TEDx, Vox, and others.

Claire has been teaching filmmaking and photography to high school students abroad for National Geographic Student Expeditions every summer since 2013. She has led trips to the Mediterranean (2013), the French and Swiss Alps (2014-2016) and Iceland (2016). This summer she will lead a filmmaking expedition to New Zealand.
