COVID 19

Resource Hub

A note from our founder

The Covid 19 pandemic has changed much about the travel landscape and our own policies and practices. Please use this hub as a resource center as we navigate this rapidly changing situation together.

We want to make every effort to run your tour safely. Your dollars on any tour have a trickle-down effect, and many of our vendors in developing nations rely on this income to survive.

But our responsibility to travel safely is not just limited to keeping us safe -- we also must consider our impact on traveling in developing nations, and the risk we may inadvertently be passing to members of the vulnerable communities we visit.

As such, we will always put lives above profit. We ask for your flexibility and understanding in this endeavor.

What we're doing to keep you safe

We want you to book our trips with confidence, knowing that we are doing all we can amidst the global Covid-19 pandemic to help keep you healthy while traveling with us.

As a small group tour company, we’re ahead of the curve here in that some of the measures we’ve always implemented (capping tour guests, for example) will also help to keep you safer.

But we're taking it even further.

Below are some things we will be implementing in our upcoming tours.

Covid 19 Travel Bans, Travel Restrictions Covid 19 | Damesly

Updated tour details

We introduced new safety measures that apply on all of our trips, beginning Oct 1, 2021.

Travelers are required to produce either:

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
    AND
  • Proof of negative COVID-19 test conducted no more than 72 hours before day 1 of your trip, or
  • Proof of recovery documentation

There are no exceptions to this rule, and we ask for your cooperation in this so that we can better ensure your safety.

As of October 1st, 2021, all tour guests must be fully vaccinated.

Our groups have always been small (we cap our tours at 10), to help foster deeper friendships and communications. While traveling with a group may still come with risks, know that your exposure will be limited to at least our group and our drivers.

We’ve increased disinfection of our vehicles and transportation and are making sure that each day the car is cleaned and sanitized thoroughly after use.

We like to feed you good, healthy food. Now, we’re looking at our food partners for additional support and will only be stopping at places where good hygiene is maintained. We can’t promise that every restaurant will abide by physical distancing, but we will do what we can.

Hotels: We prefer to work with smaller and more boutique properties and will continue to do what we can to help reduce your exposure. Most of our tours include the option to upgrade to a single room, which will remain an option for you.

If you are sharing a room, we will do our best to keep your roommate the same for the duration of your trip.

Please note that our hotel partners are committed to intensive cleaning schedules, and as such, certain amenities of a property, such as breakfast, the gym or pool, may be closed intermittently.

Face masks will be required at different points in your trip. We ask that you bring one with you for crowded markets, city tours and the plane to/from your destination. Please wear a N95 mask on the plane.

Though we are doing all we can to keep you safe while traveling, choosing to travel during a pandemic is still a risk. Prior to traveling with us, we will be sending out a waiver we will need you to sign stating that you understand these risks. If before your Damesly trip you become sick, PLEASE don’t travel with us. Email us instead to see what can be done, if anything, in regard to trip credits.

Please note, as of October 1, 2021, Damesly will be requiring that all our tour guests come fully vaccinated (at least 14 days from last dose).

Tours prior to this will follow the rules of the destination.

We’re doing all we can to continue to help you see the world in a safe and responsible way. So please know that our tour itineraries may be subject to last-minute changes, as the situation changes rapidly day-by-day throughout the world. If we don’t feel it’s safe to visit a particular city, we may be forced to amend the itinerary with little to no notice. We’ll do our best not to do this, but we ask our travel community to remain flexible with us and trust the advice of our team of experts.

If we should have to cancel your tour prior to traveling due to Covid-19 concerns, you will be offered a credit towards any future trips.

We regret that as a small operator we cannot ensure a full refund.

Travel insurance has always been a requirement on our tours, but is especially important now. Please note that we will be asking for proof of insurance prior to the start of your tour.

Due to the unpredictability of the world, we strongly recommend cancel-for-any-reason insurance from Travel Insured

Travel insurance providers’ policies vary and not all cover Covid-19. Please check with your individual provider for more information.

If you are looking for a "cancel-for-any-reason" policy, please note, these generally need to be purchased with 14 days of you putting a deposit down for a tour. Those are their policies, not ours, but we want you to be informed!

Guests on our Cuba tour do not need to provide this as the airlines offer insurance with your flights as part of their contract of carriage.

Because of our upfront costs and payments to vendors, if you should have to cancel your spot on our tour less than 30 days before a trip, we will not be able to refund you.

This is why we strongly recommend all tour guests purchase cancel-for-any-reason insurance, which covers 75% of all travel costs. This type of insurance generally needs to be purchased within 14 days of placing your tour deposit - but check their terms to be sure.

Our Cancellation Policy is here and below:

If cancelling prior to final payment, $500 of your deposit is non-refundable.

A cancellation made by you after final payment but more than 30 days prior to the date of tour departure will incur a cancellation fee of 75% of the full payment.

A cancellation made less than 30 days before the date of travel will incur a cancellation fee of 100% of the full payment.

However in either case the cancellation fee may be reduced at the discretion of Damesly depending on the circumstances of cancellation.

We follow travel advice from the CDC and US government when making decisions about where and when to operate our trips. Some destinations or regions may open gradually or partially and, in many cases, only to nationals from certain countries. That means we will continue to operate trips in a destination if at least one of the listed governments is allowing travel to that destination.

We ask that all our adventurers comply with local regulations and laws and health and safety guidelines to ensure everyone has a great time and remains safe.

In addition, each destination has its own vaccination, testing and health screening requirements for entry, exit and transit. It’s important that you check these on your government’s foreign travel advice website as these may include requiring evidence of COVID-19 test results or vaccination.

If your government is advising against travel to a destination, but you choose to do so, please be aware that we will need to receive your written acknowledgment that you are aware you are traveling against government advice. You will also need to ensure that your travel insurance covers you for travel against government advisories.

All guests on all tours, regardless of vaccination, will need a negative PCR test.

Please consider also bringing with you on your tour:

  • An at-home rapid test
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Face masks
  • Hand soap

All guests on international tours will be asked to take a PCR test 72 hours before the trip.

If you should test positive, you will not be allowed to come on the tour, and no refund will be provided.

To prevent this scenario, please be mindful of your interactions 14 days before the tour, and purchase cancel-for-any-reason insurance that can help recoup expenses.

If you develop a fever on our tour, you will be taken to a place locally to obtain a Covid-19 test (at your expense).

If you test positive, you will be isolated from the tour and will have to quarantine in a government-mandated hotel, at your own expense. The tour will continue on, and a local doctor will need to clear you to return to our group.

We will make every effort to have hand sanitizer on hand, but please also bring your own.

All travelers in foreign destinations will need a negative PCR test to return to the United States.

If you test positive on your PCR test leaving a destination, you may ask to be re-tested.

If you continue to test positive, you will be required to quarantine in a government-mandated hotel for 10-14 days, at your own expense.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to help with these expenses. We strongly recommend traveling with at least enough space on a credit card ($3-4k) to be able to cover the cost of quarantine, should you test positive.
