the trip

Day 1, December 6: Arrive to Havana

Today’s the day! Arrive to Havana at your leisure — we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

Tonight, you’ll have your own room in a Havana casita as we gear up for an amazing week. Dinner as a group.

Since we imagine you might be a little jet-lagged, we’ll keep it mellow this evening, with time for a nap, some rum, and some girl time to get to know each other.
Day 2, December 7: Explore Havana

Wake up, we’re going exploring! Today we will get to know Havana with a classic car ride around the city after breakfast. We’ll go up to the best viewpoints of the city, and have a historical tour of downtown.

From here, we’ll break for lunch, where you can try a traditional Cuban meal. After lunch, we’re going salsa dancing, with a private lesson for our group. We’ll have some time to relax and change before dinner together.

Day 3, December 8: Vinales

Today we’ll drive for four hours to get to Viñales, a town in western Cuba. Its main street is lined with colorful colonial-era wooden houses, including the Municipal Museum, which explores the region’s history.

Orchids and palms fill the sprawling Casa de Caridad Botanical Gardens. Viñales serves as a gateway to the Sierra de los Organos mountains and the Viñales Valley.

Today, we’ll have the opportunity to learn more about Vinales and its history with our tour guide. We’ll also take a boat ride through a limestone cave, and ride horses through a tobacco farm where we can get to know the owner and more of his way of life.

This is a fascinating and historic town and you’ll have a front-row view. Breakfast-lunch-dinner included.

Day 4, December 9: Varadero

In the mood for some beach time? Today we’re driving to Varadero, one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. We’ll take in the gorgeous white-sand beaches of the area and go snorkeling. Breakfast-lunch-dinner included.

Day 5, December 10: Trinidad

We’re back on the road today, headed to the colonial town of Trinidad and its colorful houses and cobblestone streets. It’s also one of our personal favorite places in Cuba, with large plazas and interesting museums.

Today we’ll be visiting one of those museums and touring this city, before checking into our accommodation.

In the evening, if you’re up for it, we will go to a nightclub within a cave. Whether or not “clubbing” is your thing– this is a fascinating place full of stalagmites and there is nowhere else in the world like it. Breakfast-lunch-dinner included.

Day 6, December 11: Trinidad

Today we’ll go on a short hike to a gorgeous waterfall just outside of Trinidad. Beneath the waterfall is a cave that feels like something out of the Goonies! After an afternoon of swimming, we will head back to Trinidad, where you’ll have a few hours of downtime at your leisure. Breakfast-lunch-dinner included.

Day 7, December 12: Return to Havana

There’s still more to see and do in Havana, so today, we will begin the journey back to Cuba’s main city. The distance from Trinidad to Havana will take us about 5 hours, so most of today will be spent in transport. However, we will be sure to stop off along the way to learn more about Cuban culture and history. Breakfast-lunch-dinner included.

Day 8, December 13: Depart Havana

It’s always our least favorite day. After breakfast we will begin airport transfers. For those with later flights, our tour guide Cristian will present options on things to do with the day.

What to Bring:

What You Need to Know

  • Everything is included in this tour, except for alcohol, flights/ insurance and visas, as well as any shopping you may choose to do.
  • All travelers who enter Cuba must have insurance documentation. Health insurance has been mandatory since May 2010. Random checks may be made on entry; get insurance here: https://www.worldnomads.com/
  • It is recommended that you bring $10/day to tip your tour guide and driver ($5/day per guide) but this is at your discretion.
  • Bring enough cash to go shopping with. There are no ATMs in Cuba and few places accept credit cards, so cash is essential. Have enough USD on you to cover any booze, souvenirs or additional things you may want to purchase. Our tour guide can get your money converted to Cuban pesos. It’s always better to have too much cash than too little. I will bring extra for anyone if need be also.
  • Bring any feminine products: they are difficult to find here.
  • Accommodation is shared between 2 people to a room. Everyone on this tour is awesome. 😉
  • We are traveling under the “Support of the Cuban People” category — as we are staying in casa particulares coordinated by a Cuban tour guide. Remember this, as you may need it for a form you will have to check by your airline. You will not have any issues with customs, Americans go to Cuba all the time and we are going legally.
  • You will need to get a Cuban Tourist Card from your airline. They each charge different things and have different rules, so be sure to check in advance what is required.
