After picking you up from the airport, we’ll head to our accommodation for some R&R. When you’ve had time to rest a little after a long flight, we’ll head out to dinner at a lively café, where you’ll get to taste some of Turkey’s most delicious foods.

Day 2: Saturday, August 17th, 2019 – Writing Workshop + City Tour

This morning we’re up early to make the most of our time together. We’ll have breakfast as a group, and after, we’ll begin with a two-hour non-fiction storytelling workshop.

Why do we tell stories? How do we create work that stands out? Why is it important to find your unique voice, and how do you best craft a winning travel piece? Bring your notebooks, we’ll be hands-on during this session.

After the workshop, we’ll head out to lunch, and then we’ll be exploring the city via an Istanbul city tour.

On our tour, we’ll see Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, and the colorful Grand Bazaar.

After the tour, we’ll have dinner together as a group.

Day 3: August 18th, 2019

After breakfast, we’ll dive into our second travel-writing workshop of this trip: how to write a pitch letter that gets an editor’s attention. Half of the battle in writing about travel is creating a unique point of view, and a pitch letter that reflects that.

In this workshop, we’ll discover what editors are looking for, how to find and contact them, best practices in negotiating, and landing a deal.

If you’re interested in starting or increasing your freelance outlets, this workshop will set you light years ahead of the competition.

After the workshop we’ll have lunch, and then we’ll visit a local hammam (Turkish bath house) for some pampering. If you’ve never been to a hammam before, you’re in for an interesting experience, where little ladies scrub you down to reveal baby soft skin you never knew you had.

This evening, we’ll take a cruise down the Bosphorous Straight, which forms the divide between Europe and Asia. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins!

Day 4, September 9th: Departure Day
