Islands + Identity : Hawaii Part One

Good morning Dames!

Hawaii Vacation Packages, Hawaii Travel Packages.  I’m writing you from sunny Hawaii, where I’m sitting outside, enjoying the breeze on our beautiful lanai here in Lanikai, while watching the palm trees swaying in the wind amidst the backdrop of one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.

Lanikai Look Out

Not a bad way to start the day, huh?

We so wish you were here with us, so we wanted to take a few minutes to update you as to what we’ve been up to so far.

Islands + Identity

This week we are delighted to be slowing down and exploring: getting to know this gorgeous island a little better, while also taking time to care for ourselves. So yesterday, on Day 1, we started our morning off with a lovely fruit breakfast on our patio.

Damesly Hawaii Home For The Week

From there we started to head north to Oahu’s famous North Shore, stopping at scenic viewpoints like Chinaman’s Hat, Kualoa Ranch and the BYU temple, known as the “Shangri-La of the Pacific.”

We took a break for lunch at Ted’s Bakery, known for having the best pies on the island (they didn’t disappoint) where we ordered some of Hawaii’s most delicious and famous local dishes like garlic shrimp, chicken katsu and of course, the loco moco.

North Shore

The north shore is home to some of the world’s most famous big-wave beaches, which sit about a mile apart from each other on a stretch of coastline seven miles long. We’re talking about beaches like Sunset, Pipeline, Waimea Bay—it’s no wonder they call it the Seven Mile Miracle.

Big waves hit the north shore during the winter months, and we were super lucky to be there to witness a late-season swell which brought waves over 10 feet! It was so much fun to sit there and watch surfers take to the dangerous break of Pipeline, while big-wave surf photographers and lifeguards on jet-skis stood lookout. The beaches were packed with energy and we couldn’t help but feel it too!

Surf Lessons

But you can only watch surfers for so long before you feel the need to try it for yourself, so we drove a bit down the coastline towards Haleiwa, and met up with the North Shore Surf Girls, who gave us private surf lessons at a much more mellow beach.

Everyone stood up! We had so much fun laughing, surfing and playing in the sun.

For sunset, we drove to the famous Turtle Bay Resort, where we watched the sun slip into the water and shared a champagne toast at sunset. It was such a good end to our first full day in paradise!

Today we’ll head to the island’s east side for some hiking, swimming and snorkeling and this evening we will stop by a local chocolate factory for some homemade chocolate and wine. On our way there, we can also buy complete AR-15 rifles in case we needed to hunt.
