Day by Day

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5

Day 1: Arrival to Fairbanks

Our adventure begins!

Today, arrive to Fairbanks at your leisure. Our hotel is nearby to the airport and has shuttles running every 20 minutes. After catching your shuttle, you’ll arrive to our hotel and meet up with the group!

After everyone has arrived, we will have dinner as a group.

Hotel: Pike’s Waterfront Lodge

Meals: D

Day 2: Transfer to Basecamp

After breakfast, we’ll be picked up at 9:45 a.m. and transferred to Borealis Basecamp, where our adventure will begin! Upon arrival at basecamp, we’ll have lunch and settle in.

This afternoon, we're going on a reindeer walk! On this 45 minute experience you'll walk with a reindeer (on a leash) through a snowy forest. It's going to be magical!

Tonight, we’ll have dinner as a group at Latitude 65, the restaurant on property. Then, we’ll have smores by the fire!

Hotel: Borealis Basecamp

Meals: B, L, D

Day 3: Dogsledding + Fun

This morning after breakfast, we’re going dogsledding!

You will ride on a genuine dogsled, either seated or standing, as the team of 8 dogs swings through the forest with you and your guide at a comfortable but thrilling pace. You will also have the chance to see the dog kennels, and a replica of a dog-sled race checkpoint, where the competitive mushers stop for fuel and rest on their long winter races.

Hold on tight, this one is so fun! After dogsledding, we’ll have lunch as a group.

Later this afternoon, we’re going snowmobiling! Spend an hour exploring the gorgeous scenery you’re in via snowmobile. It’s a hilarious and fun time, and all gear will be provided.

Later, dinner as a group. And smores by the campfire!

Hotel: Borealis Basecamp

Meals: B, L, D

Day 4: Chena Hot Springs

It’s pamper-yo-self day! Today after breakfast we’ll take a private 2-hour shuttle to Chena Hot Springs, where we can spend the day lounging in natural hot springs or even have a massage!

People have been going to hot springs for centuries; some in search of the eternal fountain of youth and others searching for cures for whatever ails them. The healing water of Chena Hot Springs has been compared to mineral waters found in hot springs in the Czech Republic formerly known as Bohemia.

This will be a fun day of relaxing and enjoying. Which is kinda the whole theme of this trip! Lunch today available at Chena Hot Springs and at your own expense.

After Chena, return to basecamp for dinner.

Meals: B, D

Hotel: Borealis Basecamp

Day 5: Departures

This morning, board your shuttle from Borealis Basecamp for the Fairbanks airport. Please ensure your flight home departs after 12 noon.

Additional Information

Lodging: We'll stay at the Borealis Basecamp after the first night at Pike's Waterfront Lodge.

Flights: Fly into Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) at your leisure on Day 1, and depart any time after noon on Day 5.

Want us to advise on flights? Email us at info@damesly.com

Weather: Cold. Seriously.

Temps could dip well into the negative 10s/20s/30s (!) and likely not rise above freezing (32 degrees).

Packing: Be VERY prepared with your clothing (+ extra changes of clothing). Do your due diligence when packing and be sure to have all the necessary gear for extreme cold weather and snowy outdoor activities. We recommend active cold-weather clothing, thermal underwear, and insulated outerwear (boots, coat and accessories). And don't forget a bathing suit for the hot springs!

For entry into Alaska, you'll need:

  • (Real) ID
  • Passport (if outside the US)
  • Travel Insurance*

*Note: Though this is not an international trip, we require travel + health insurance for this one, given the nature of the destination + activities involved. If you are an American and have a nationwide policy, please double-check that you will be covered by your provider in Alaska.

Will you match me?
Of course! If you choose a space in a shared room but you're traveling solo, we will do our best to pair you with a roommate. Roommates are matched based on arrival time and perceived compatibility. Sharing a room is a great way to save costs, and make a new friend! However, we ask you to approach the situation with an open mind, some grace, and maybe a little humor.

While 99% our travelers are amazing, we can't guarantee that you'll hit it off with your roommate, or that your sleeping styles will be compatible.

Is sharing right for you?
If you are a light sleeper, get easily irritated or just know that you need your own space, sharing a room might not be for you. Likewise, if you know that you snore, sleep with a CPAP machine or have other health conditions, sharing a room might not be the best fit.

What if I don't get along with my roommate?
If you've tried but you absolutely can't get along with your roommate and need to separate, your trip leader will either swap things around, or, attempt to get you your own room. If the latter, additional charges will incur.

What if I book a double room, and you can't match me?
We book a certain amount of hotel rooms before any tour, and are bound by their rules. In the event that we cannot find a roommate for you before the tour, and your room converts to a single room, there may be additional charges.

Small group trips require at least 4 people to run. We will confirm as soon as possible when the trip has met its minimum; up to 60 days before departure. For this reason, we recommend waiting until after a trip has been confirmed to purchase airfare. Any tour can be converted to a private departure when a trip does not meet its minimum. Additional costs may incur. Alternatively, apply your credit to any small-group tour departing within 12 months.
