Albania

This Albania journey blends layered history, rich culinary traditions, and stunning coastal landscapes into one seamless experience set in one of Europe’s most under-the-radar destinations...for now. We begin in Tirana, a vibrant capital still redefining itself, before stepping into the country’s past in Kruja and Berat, where Ottoman architecture and centuries-old traditions remain part of everyday life. From there, we travel south through the stone city of Gjirokastër and into the Ionian coast, where the pace softens and the scenery opens wide.

Along the way, we experience Albania through its people and flavors. We share farm-to-table meals, learn traditional recipes in a hands-on cooking class, and taste local wines rooted in ancient traditions. We explore archaeological wonders like Butrint National Park, cruise along the Albanian Riviera to hidden beaches, and take in sweeping coastal views from hilltop castles.

This trip is designed to feel immersive yet effortless, balancing guided experiences with time to swim, wander, and connect. Albania offers the beauty of the Mediterranean without the crowds - raw, welcoming, and still largely undiscovered. The kind of place you experience now, before everyone else catches on.

Day by Day

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 Day 8

Day 1: Arrivals

Welcome to Albania! After a private airport transfer, we check into Hotel Xheko Imperial, a tucked-away oasis surrounded by Mediterranean gardens right in the heart of the capital city of Tirana. Tirana is one of Europe’s most surprising capitals. It’s vibrant, colorful, and still evolving after decades of isolation under communist rule.

Tonight is all about settling in and getting our first taste of Albania. We gather for a welcome dinner at the hotel, where we’re introduced to the country’s cuisine. Think Mediterranean influences layered with Balkan depth. It’s relaxed, refined, and the perfect start to the week ahead.

Day 2: Tirana + Kruja: Past Meets Present

We start the day with a short drive to Kruja, a hillside town that feels like stepping into Albania’s origin story. This is the stronghold of Skanderbeg, the national hero who resisted the Ottoman Empire. At the Skanderbeg Museum, we get context on Albania’s fight for identity and independence.

On our way back to Tirana, we'll stop for a relaxing lunch in the Albanian countryside. We'll experience farm-to-table in its purest form where everything is local, seasonal, and deeply rooted in tradition.

We'll have time to relax at the hotel before exploring Tirana in the evening. Our guide will bring the capital to life, from its bold architecture to its layered history. We visit Bunk’Art, a massive underground bunker turned museum that tells the story of Albania’s communist era in a way that’s immersive and unforgettable.

We close the night with dinner at a traditional Albanian restaurant and for those interested, a quick nightcap at a retro bar inspired by Albania’s communist past.

Day 3: Berat + Local Vineyard Visit

We leave Tirana and head toward Berat, with a stop in Durrës to explore one of the Balkans’ largest Roman amphitheaters. It’s a reminder of how many civilizations have passed through this region.

By afternoon, we arrive in Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its cascading Ottoman houses that give it the nickname “City of a Thousand Windows.” We'll rest for a quick lunch before heading to Berat Castle and the Onufri Museum where we'll see the numerous religious icons painted in a distinct Albanian style. It’s a quiet but powerful look into the country’s artistic and spiritual history.

We'll end our day with a wine tasting at a female-owned, family winery set in a relaxed countryside setting. Albania’s wine culture dates back thousands of years, and because few grapes varieties are exported, we'll have the opportunity to taste vintages only available in Albania.

Day 4: Gjirokastër + Cooking Class + Sarandë

Today we continue south towards the Albanian Riviera, with a purposeful stop in Gjirokastër, known as the “City of Stone”. We'll explore the Gjirokastër Castle, which towers over the valley and offers sweeping mountain views before exploring the small slate-roofed homes and cobblestone streets of this city trapped in time.

We'll be welcomed into a local family home for a hands-on cooking class focused on traditional Albanian dishes like byrek, qifqi (fried rice balls), and tavë kosi (baked lamb + rice). After we've prepared our food, we'll gather for a peaceful lunch in a private garden, sharing stories and hearing from the women of the region.

Afterwards, we'll head towards the coast, trading mountains for the Ionian Sea. Upon arrival into Sarandë, the evening is yours to unwind and enjoy the slower rhythm of coastal Albania.

Day 5: Butrint National Park + Ksamil Beach & Sunset

We start our day at Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where layers of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian history unfold as we walk through ancient ruins surrounded by lush wetlands and quiet lagoons. It’s one of those places where every step feels like moving through a different era.

Then we shift into full coastal mode in Ksamil, often called the Maldives of Europe. Think powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and small islands just offshore that you can swim to. We settle in for a long, leisurely lunch, where fresh seafood and Mediterranean flavors take center stage, followed by an afternoon to swim, unwind, and fully take it all in.

As the day winds down, we'll head up to a local viewpoint for sunset, where panoramic views stretch across Sarandë and the Ionian Sea. It’s the kind of golden-hour moment that stays with you long after the trip ends. Dinner at your leisure.

Day 6: Private Boat Trip + Beach Day

This morning, we'll explore the Albanian Riviera by private speedboat, where the coastline reveals itself in a way you simply can’t experience from land. We cruise past rugged cliffs and into hidden coves, stopping at secluded beaches with water so impossibly clear it almost feels surreal. These quiet pockets of the coast feel untouched and undiscovered, which is exactly what makes them so special.

By afternoon, we ease into a slower rhythm. The time is yours to enjoy the beach, take a swim in the Ionian’s calm, glassy waters, or settle into a lounge chair and fully unwind. No agenda, no rush. Just space to be present and soak it all in.

After returning to the hotel and freshening up, we'll gather for dinner at a restaurant set right along the water. Fresh seafood, simple Mediterranean flavors, and the sound of the sea set the tone for a relaxed final evening on the coast.

Day 7: Vlore + Albanian Nights

Today feels like a coastal road trip, winding our way back to Tirana along one of the most scenic stretches in Albania. We hug the Riviera, where dramatic cliffs drop into the Ionian Sea and every turn opens up to another postcard view. We stop at Porto Palermo Castle, a quiet fortress set on a small peninsula, where the views stretch endlessly over the water and the history feels almost untouched.

Continuing north, we reach Vlorë, where the Ionian and Adriatic seas meet. We settle in for a relaxed seaside lunch before arriving back in Tirana and checking into our hotel. Our final night together begins with a lively night filled with traditional music, dancing, and a final celebration of the culture we’ve experienced all week. Afterwards, continue on for a farewell dinner set atop the city's Sky Tower, taking in panoramic views over the city and reflecting on an incredible week.

Meals: B, L, D

Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn

Day 8: Departures

Our final morning is slow and easy. We enjoy one last breakfast together, soaking in those last moments of the trip, replaying favorite memories, and exchanging “we have to travel together again” plans.

Depending on departure times, there’s space for a short walk, a final coffee, or a quiet moment to take in Tirana one last time. Then we transfer to the airport for our flights home.

We leave with full hearts, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation for a place that still feels undiscovered.

Flights: Fly into and out of Tirana (TIA). Plan to arrive by late afternoon on Day 1 so you can comfortably join the welcome dinner. On departure day, you can book your flight for any time depending on your preference.

Weather: June in Albania is warm, sunny, and ideal for both exploring and beach time. Expect daytime temperatures in the mid-70s to mid-80s°F, with cooler evenings in the high 60s°F. Inland cities like Tirana and Berat will feel warmer, while the coast along the Ionian Sea offers a refreshing breeze and perfect swimming conditions.

Packing: Think light, breathable, and summer-ready. Bring comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets and city exploring, along with sandals for the coast. Pack lightweight clothing, swimwear, and a few elevated outfits for dinners and nights out. A light layer is useful for evenings. Don’t forget sun protection, sunglasses, and a hat. A small daypack or tote is great for day trips and beach days.

For entry into Albania you'll need:

  • Passport (valid for 6+ months)

At Damesly, our goal is to connect women through beautifully curated travel experiences. Our trips are designed with a high level of support and a strong focus on cultural connection. We’re dames who work hard and travel often, so when you use your PTO, we want it to feel worth it.

We hand-select boutique hotels based on location, character, and service. Think hidden gems over big chains. Some are elevated, some are simple, but all are thoughtfully chosen to enhance the experience. Our itineraries balance movement and downtime. We’re here for the adventure, the unexpected, and the moments that feel real, but we also appreciate a great meal, a seaside view, and time to unwind.

Our travelers are curious, open-minded, and ready to step outside their comfort zones. Albania is still emerging as a destination, which is part of what makes it special. It’s raw, welcoming, and full of contrast. The kind of place where things may not always run perfectly, but the experience is richer because of it.

On this Albania journey, expect a blend of culture, cuisine, and coastline. We’ll explore historic cities like Berat and Gjirokastër, walk through ancient ruins at Butrint National Park, cook traditional dishes in a village setting, and spend time along the Albanian Riviera. It’s immersive, varied, and designed to show you multiple sides of the country.

Many days include walking through cobblestone streets, historic areas, and coastal towns, so you should feel comfortable being on your feet for extended periods. The pace is relaxed with breaks built in, but a general level of mobility will help you fully enjoy the experience.

As with any immersive trip, plans may shift slightly based on timing and local conditions. Albania moves at its own rhythm, and that’s part of the magic. The best moments often come from the unplanned ones, a long lunch, a hidden beach, a conversation you didn’t expect. Come curious and open. That’s where the trip really comes to life.

Will you match me?
Of course! If you choose a space in a shared room but you're traveling solo, we will do our best to pair you with a roommate. Roommates are matched based on arrival time and perceived compatibility. Sharing a room is a great way to save costs, and make a new friend! However, we ask you to approach the situation with an open mind, some grace, and maybe a little humor.

While 99% our travelers are amazing, we can't guarantee that you'll hit it off with your roommate, or that your sleeping styles will be compatible.

Is sharing right for you?
If you are a light sleeper, get easily irritated or just know that you need your own space, sharing a room might not be for you. Likewise, if you know that you snore, sleep with a CPAP machine or have other health conditions, sharing a room might not be the best fit.

What if I don't get along with my roommate?
If you've tried but you absolutely can't get along with your roommate and need to separate, your trip leader will either swap things around, or, attempt to get you your own room. If the latter, additional charges will incur.

What if I book a double room, and you can't match me?
We book a certain amount of hotel rooms before any tour, and are bound by their rules. In the event that we cannot find a roommate for you before the tour, and your room converts to a single room, there may be additional charges.

Small group trips require at least 4 people to run. We will confirm as soon as possible when the trip has met its minimum; up to 60 days before departure. For this reason, we recommend waiting until after a trip has been confirmed to purchase airfare. Any tour can be converted to a private departure when a trip does not meet its minimum. Additional costs may incur. Alternatively, apply your credit to any small-group tour departing within 12 months.

You'll receive an email from WeTravel after you book to set up your account and make payments according to your personal situation.

Email us at info@damesly.com if you'd like us to create a payment schedule for you. This is the easiest way to smooth out trip payments.

Tours must be paid in full 60 days before departure. See our cancellation policy here.
