Eastern Europe
This journey through Eastern Europe feels like stepping into a story you didn’t know you were part of. We begin in Kraków, where royal history and vibrant culture unfold across medieval squares and castle-lined horizons. From there, we leave the city behind and rise into the High Tatras, where alpine air, quiet lakes, and dramatic peaks shift the pace and clear the mind.
Then, everything changes.
We move into castle country, where history is no longer something you visit. It becomes something you live inside. We settle into restored estates where grand halls, manicured grounds, and centuries-old walls surround us. Mornings feel slower, evenings feel richer, and the days in between are filled with local flavors, vineyard tastings, and cultural traditions that connect us to the rhythm of this region in a way that feels both intimate and unforgettable.
We close in Budapest, where the energy returns. Thermal baths, glowing riverbanks, and candlelit dinners along the Danube bring a sense of contrast and celebration to the final chapter.
This is not just a trip through Europe. It is a shift in perspective. A chance to step into history, to feel it around you, and to experience it in a way that is immersive, elevated, and deeply personal.

We begin the day stepping deeper into Kraków, once the royal capital of Poland and a longtime center of culture and intellectual life. Its Old Town, one of the best-preserved in Europe, unfolds around us with grand squares, Gothic towers, and centuries-old landmarks that reflect its layered past.
We explore the Main Market Square, where St. Mary’s Basilica rises above the skyline and the historic Cloth Hall speaks to Kraków’s days as a major trade hub. Nearby, Wawel Castle stands as a lasting symbol of Polish royalty, grounding the city in its regal history.
The afternoon is yours to explore at your pace before we regroup for dinner in Kazimierz, the historic Jewish quarter. Once its own city, it is now one of Kraków’s most vibrant neighborhoods. We'll enjoy a traditional Jewish meal at a local restaurant accompanied by live Klezmer music, bringing the spirit of the area to life.

Day 3: Wieliczka Salt Mine + High Tatras Mountains
Today we leave Kraków and journey south into Slovakia, where the landscapes begin to shift dramatically. After a relaxed morning, we set out toward the mountains, stopping along the way at the Wieliczka Salt Mine. An underground area dating back to the 13th century, the Wieliczka Salt Mine is a UNESCO-listed underground world of tunnels, chambers, and cathedral-like spaces carved entirely from salt. Once a major source of Poland’s wealth, it now offers a fascinating glimpse into centuries of craftsmanship, with highlights like the breathtaking Chapel of St. Kinga deep below the surface.
We'll break for lunch together before continuing onward to a breathtaking drive into the High Tatras, Slovakia’s oldest national park. These alpine peaks, shaped by glaciers thousands of years ago, rise sharply above the landscape, creating one of Europe’s most compact mountain ranges.
We check into our hotel overlooking the valley, take time to settle in, and enjoy a relaxed evening surrounded by fresh mountain air.

Once we arrive, we begin with a guided introduction to the Pest side, where grand boulevards, historic cafés, and striking architecture tell the story of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. As we explore, you’ll start to get a sense of the city’s rhythm, equal parts elegant and lively.

Weather: October in Eastern Europe brings crisp, fall weather with beautiful autumn colors. Expect daytime temperatures in the mid-50s to mid-60s°F, with cooler mornings and evenings dipping into the 40s°F. Mountain regions like the High Tatras will be slightly cooler, especially at elevation, with brisk air and the potential for early seasonal chill. Overall, it is a comfortable and scenic time to explore.
Packing: Think layers. Bring comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets and light hikes, along with sweaters, long sleeves, and a medium-weight jacket for cooler mornings and evenings. For the mountains, a warmer layer is recommended. You may want slightly elevated outfits for castle stays and dinners, but overall keep it comfortable and versatile. A small daypack, sunglasses, and basic cold-weather accessories like a scarf or light gloves will go a long way.
For entry into Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary, you'll need:
- Passport (valid for 6+ months)
- ETIAS (travel authorization)
Will you match me?
Of course! If you choose a space in a shared room but you're traveling solo, we will do our best to pair you with a roommate. Roommates are matched based on arrival time and perceived compatibility. Sharing a room is a great way to save costs, and make a new friend! However, we ask you to approach the situation with an open mind, some grace, and maybe a little humor.
While 99% our travelers are amazing, we can't guarantee that you'll hit it off with your roommate, or that your sleeping styles will be compatible.
Is sharing right for you?
If you are a light sleeper, get easily irritated or just know that you need your own space, sharing a room might not be for you. Likewise, if you know that you snore, sleep with a CPAP machine or have other health conditions, sharing a room might not be the best fit.
What if I don't get along with my roommate?
If you've tried but you absolutely can't get along with your roommate and need to separate, your trip leader will either swap things around, or, attempt to get you your own room. If the latter, additional charges will incur.
What if I book a double room, and you can't match me?
We book a certain amount of hotel rooms before any tour, and are bound by their rules. In the event that we cannot find a roommate for you before the tour, and your room converts to a single room, there may be additional charges.
Small group trips require at least 4 people to run. We will confirm as soon as possible when the trip has met its minimum; up to 60 days before departure. For this reason, we recommend waiting until after a trip has been confirmed to purchase airfare. Any tour can be converted to a private departure when a trip does not meet its minimum. Additional costs may incur. Alternatively, apply your credit to any small-group tour departing within 12 months.
You'll receive an email from WeTravel after you book to set up your account and make payments according to your personal situation.
Email us at info@damesly.com if you'd like us to create a payment schedule for you. This is the easiest way to smooth out trip payments.
Tours must be paid in full 60 days before departure. See our cancellation policy here.
