Mexico City

Mexico City is one of the most exciting food cities in the world. It's vibrant, creative, a little chaotic, and completely unforgettable. On this adventure, we dive straight into the flavors, culture, and energy that make this city so special.

We’ll float through the canals of Xochimilco, harvest ingredients on a traditional chinampa farm, and cook breakfast together surrounded by water and flowers. We’ll wander colorful neighborhoods like Coyoacán, step inside Frida Kahlo’s iconic blue house, and explore the markets, streets, and hidden corners where Mexico City’s culture comes alive.

Along the way, we’ll meet local chefs, artisans, and food experts who will introduce us to the ingredients and traditions that define Mexican cuisine. Think crafting your own salsa with a third-generation chile expert, sipping rare mezcal with a renowned producer, and eating our way through the city on an unforgettable taco crawl.

This trip is designed for travelers who want more than sightseeing. It’s about tasting the city, connecting with its people, and experiencing the culture in a way that feels immersive, social, and genuinely fun.

Bienvenidos a Ciudad de México, the vibrant capital of this surreal and deeply layered country! Upon arrival, you'll be greeted at the airport and transferred to The Red Tree Hotel - a stylish and thoughtfully designed boutique guesthouse located in the heart of La Condesa, one of Mexico City's most charming and walkable neighborhoods.

We'll gather for our welcome dinner at a Michelin Green Star restaurant for an unforgettable farm-to-table meal that will introduce the flavors, philosophy, and values that will guide our journey: respect for tradition, conscious travel, and deep connection to place.

Those interested in continuing on are invited to an optional night out at a lively salsa bar where guests are invited to partake in an introductory salsa dance lesson. Our day begins in the canals of Xochimilco, a UNESCO World Heritage site and remnant of the ancient lake system that once surrounded Mexico City. We board colorful trajineras and glide through the waterways before stepping onto a chinampa, a traditional agricultural island, where we harvest fresh ingredients and take part in a hands-on cooking experience, preparing a farm-to-table breakfast rooted in local tradition.

Next, we head to the charming neighborhood of Coyoacán, known for its cobblestone streets, colorful homes, and artistic spirit. After a guided walk, we visit La Casa Azul, the former home of Frida Kahlo, gaining insight into her life, and creative genius and discovering the woman behind the myth and the deep cultural roots that shaped her work.

We'll stop for lunch after our visit, before returning to our hotel The evening and dinner are yours to enjoy - to wander the plazas, explore artisan markets, or find a cozy restaurant to end the day.

After lunch in the Centro Histórico, enjoy free time to explore nearby landmarks like the Zócalo, Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Templo Mayor.

Later, we gather for an expert-led, curated mezcal tasting, sampling small-batch agave spirits while learning about their traditions and origins. Additional Information

Flights: You'll fly into and out of Mexico City (MEX). Arrive anytime on Day 1 arrival day, and depart after 12 noon on departure day.

Weather: May in Mexico City is warm with a mix of sunny mornings and occasional afternoon rain showers as the rainy season begins. Expect daytime highs in the mid-70s to low-80s°F, with mornings and evenings cooling into the low 60s°F. Rain typically comes in short bursts later in the day, so most mornings and early afternoons are still great for exploring.

Packing: Think casual, comfortable city wear. Bring good walking shoes for exploring markets, museums, and neighborhoods. Light layers work best: t-shirts or blouses for daytime and a light jacket or sweater for cooler mornings and evenings. Since much of the trip revolves around food, markets, and walking the city, breathable fabrics and comfortable outfits are ideal. Sun protection (sunglasses, sunscreen, hat) is helpful during daytime outings, and a small daypack or crossbody bag will be useful for daily excursions.

For entry into Mexico, you'll need:

  • Passport (valid for 6+ months)

So when you use your coveted PTO days, we want you to have the best trip possible! To do this, we hand-select boutique hotels based on location and service. We look for unique properties that we think of as hidden gems, which may or may not be 5-stars. Our itineraries offer a mix of adventure and relaxation. We’re not afraid to get a little dirty to have the most fun experiences, but if there’s an infinity pool or a great spa afterwards — we’ll meet you there!

Traveling the world comes with rewards and challenges. Our traveler is someone who is easy-going and open minded to new experiences and cultures, ready to get out of their comfort zone and understands that travel leads to personal growth, even on its toughest days. Join us if you’re adventurous, kind, open-minded and ready for the trip of a lifetime.

On our Mexico City tour, you can expect vibrant neighborhoods, incredible markets, world-class food, and a deep dive into the culture and creativity that define one of the most exciting cities in the world. From floating through the canals of Xochimilco and cooking on a traditional chinampa farm to exploring Coyoacán, visiting Frida Kahlo’s iconic Blue House, and tasting mezcal and street food across the city, this itinerary is designed for travelers who want to truly experience the flavors, history, and energy of Mexico City.

That said, Mexico City is a lively and dynamic place. Traffic, timing, and the rhythm of local life can occasionally shift plans, and flexibility is part of the experience. We encourage travelers to arrive with curiosity, an open mind, and an appreciation for cultures and perspectives different from their own. Often, it’s these spontaneous moments that end up being the most memorable parts of the journey.

You'll receive an email from WeTravel after you book to set up your account and make payments according to your personal situation.

Email us at info@damesly.com if you'd like us to create a payment schedule for you. This is the easiest way to smooth out trip payments.

Will you match me?
Of course! If you choose a space in a shared room but you're traveling solo, we will do our best to pair you with a roommate. Roommates are matched based on arrival time and perceived compatibility. Sharing a room is a great way to save costs, and make a new friend! However, we ask you to approach the situation with an open mind, some grace, and maybe a little humor.

While 99% our travelers are amazing, we can't guarantee that you'll hit it off with your roommate, or that your sleeping styles will be compatible.

Is sharing right for you?
If you are a light sleeper, get easily irritated or just know that you need your own space, sharing a room might not be for you. Likewise, if you know that you snore, sleep with a CPAP machine or have other health conditions, sharing a room might not be the best fit.

What if I don't get along with my roommate?
If you've tried but you absolutely can't get along with your roommate and need to separate, your trip leader will either swap things around, or, attempt to get you your own room. If the latter, additional charges will incur.

What if I book a double room, and you can't match me?
We book a certain amount of hotel rooms before any tour, and are bound by their rules. In the event that we cannot find a roommate for you before the tour, and your room converts to a single room, there may be additional charges.

Small group trips require at least 4 people to run. We will confirm as soon as possible when the trip has met its minimum; up to 60 days before departure. For this reason, we recommend waiting until after a trip has been confirmed to purchase airfare. Any tour can be converted to a private departure when a trip does not meet its minimum. Additional costs may incur. Alternatively, apply your credit to any small-group tour departing within 12 months.
